Alastair Chalmers (10185)

Congratulations to Alastair on his bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Being presented with a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games for Guernsey was the best moment in my sporting career so far. The night was even more special as it was in front of a home crowd of 35,000 people but also my family and friends. Making history that night was such a bonus, as I was the first ever Guernsey competitor from athletics to claim a medal. We spend years of our lives training, competing, and sacrificing for moments like this. Getting a medal at any high-level senior competition is very rare in an individual event so at the age of 22, I feel very privileged to already have one.

It was also a huge honour this year to run at the World Championships for GB in Eugene Oregon. Since being in school I've always wanted to compete for Great Britain, and to have been on that start line on the world stage against the best in the world was such a dream, which will hopefully lead me on to many more in the future. I really would urge any young boys or girls reading this to believe and set goals for their dreams because with hard work and determination you will achieve them. Sometimes I look back four years ago being in school and can't quite believe how far I've come and what I've experienced in such a short amount of time.
