Last night, musicians at the Upper School, including the Gibson Fleming Scholars, performed a wonderful variety of musical pieces to a packed audience in College Hall. Among the many highlights was an outstanding rendition of Caravan by the Soul Band, featuring Gibson Fleming Scholar Eoin Fleming (Year 13), whose impressive drumming captivated the crowd.
In attendance were 30 members of the Elizabeth College Legacy Club, affectionately known as the Dead Donkeys, for whom the Gibson Fleming Concert is an annual highlight of the club’s social calendar. Following the performance, the Donkeys were led to the Refectory by Year 13 student Ben Davidson, whose bagpipe playing provided a lovely start to the evening’s second half. There, they enjoyed a meal accompanied by beautiful music from the Close Harmony Group before joining students for a spirited rendition of the College song, The Carmen.
Thanks are due to the Chair of the Gibson Fleming Trustees, Jerry Girard (5442), for welcoming concert guests and highlighting the importance of the Gibson Fleming Award scheme to Elizabeth College.
Nick Guillemette (5224), Donkey in Chief, also spoke, thanking the students and legacy club guests for making the evening a special celebration of musical talent at College.
Finally, heartfelt thanks go to all the staff who support and inspire our students, providing them with such valuable opportunities to develop and share their passion for music.
