Elizabeth College has commemorated 80 years since returning from wartime evacuation by retracing the steps of its students exiled during the German occupation of Guernsey (1940–45).
Organised by the Dead Donkey Club, a group including current students, staff, and OEs visited key sites in Derbyshire where the school found refuge. From initially sleeping in glider hangars on concrete floors, to finding solace in Whitehall and Nightingale House, the visit honoured the resilience and community spirit that defined those years.
The trip included the 176th OEA Dinner, specially held at Cutlers’ Hall to mark the occasion, and a moving service at Tideswell Church, where the Guernsey flag flew high. Friendships have been formed and reignited on this very special trip.
The OEA organised a table in the clubhouse following the match. More...
