Elizabeth College will once again be flying the orange flag in 2025 in support of the Soroptimists’ global campaign to end gender-based violence. This year’s specific focus is on online safety. The orange flag stands as a beacon of hope and unity, symbolising a brighter future free from violence, fear, and inequality.

The flag will be raised later this month to mark the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international movement running from 25 November, the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, through to 10 December, Human Rights Day. During this period, communities around the world ‘turn orange’ to raise awareness, take action, and stand together in the fight for equality and respect.

A number of events will take place over the sixteen days to help the Soroptimists raise awareness. These include

  • a display of shoes on the Market Steps,
  • the Inner Wheel’s walk at Saumarez Park with Lady Cripwell,
  • States members are being asked to wear orange at the State’s meeting next week
  • Government House and Beau Sejour will both be illuminated in orange.

These events provide opportunities for the community to engage in meaningful conversations about what we can all do to challenge violence and promote healthy, respectful relationships.

Whilst the campaign began with a focus on ending violence against women, the Soroptimists emphasise that this is an issue that affects everyone.

By flying the orange flag, Elizabeth College joins a global movement to end gender-based violence and to help build a world founded on respect, equality, and understanding, principles that reflect our own values of curiosity, compassion and courage.
