OE News: April 2021

Adam Smale (8614) has been made a knight first class of the Order of the White Rose in Finland. Adam, who is Dean of the Vaasa University Business School, has been recognised for his contribution to business education, research and leadership at the University. The award is similar to being made an MBAE in the UK. Adam moved to Vaasa in 2004 and lives there with his Finnish wife and two children, although he tries to return to Guernsey when time allows.

Jacques Vermeulen (9025) has been named Chief Commercial Officer at IQ-EQ. In this new role, Jacques will be responsible for developing and implementing the firm’s key growth strategies, including business development and service initiatives. Before the appointment, he spent 2 years in IQ-EQ’s New York office where he was a key member of the funds-focussed team.

Meanwhile Andy Alford (8208) has been promoted to Senior Investment Manager at Brooks Macdonald International. Andy joined the firm in 2016 where he is responsible for managing discretionary private client and institutional money.

Jack Trott (10564) has run a marathon in memory of his close friend Jacob Mahy who tragically took his own life. He finished the marathon in 3 hours 44 minutes, slightly slower than he hoped; however he far exceeded his fund raising target of £500, and raised an impressive £5,150 for Guernsey Mind.
