The Pottery Department was delighted to welcome some special visitors yesterday as three Old Elizabethans returned to College. Peter Birch (OE 11423), now in his fourth year studying engineering, Theo Swainston (OE 11442), who is studying architecture, and Rob Carre (OE 11668), who has recently qualified as a pilot, enjoyed the opportunity to be back behind the potter’s wheel and revisit a much-loved part of their school days.
During their visit, the OEs spent time working in the studio before taking part in a lively and engaging question and answer session with Year 7 students. The students were eager to hear about their journeys since leaving College and asked thoughtful questions about the skills, qualifications, and experiences needed to pursue careers in engineering, architecture, and aviation.
The session provided valuable insight into the different pathways open to students and highlighted the importance of curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to explore varied interests. It was also a wonderful reminder of the lasting connections formed at College.
The Old Elizabethan network remains a vital and much valued part of our community, and we are extremely grateful to Peter, Theo, and Rob for returning to College to share their experiences and inspire the next generation.
