On a beautiful summer's afternoon in June, fuelled by generous amounts of Perrot Pimms served from a brand new watering can and Mandy's excellent sandwiches, 16 enthusiastic players embarked on the second OEA Croquet Tournament.
This year the course, in Roger Perrot's beautiful garden, was in excellent condition and would have made a golf green-keeper very proud. Our host could not contain himself and elected to play in the competition. Local knowledge definitely came into play as, partnering Caroline and after some rather unfriendly trips into the bushes to retrieve balls, he beat the President, the current championship holder, in the first round.
After fierce competition, the final was between Peter Bachmann and his partner Sue du Putron and Frank Degnen partnered by Gill Girard. It quickly became apparent that both Gill and Peter were 'in it to win it' and a very close battle ensued with Gill and Frank ending up as the victors.
It was day full of laughter and fun and of course Roger's Pimms.
Many thanks to Roger for hosting the event and to Barney for providing the off course entertainment.
