The 142th Old Elizabethan Association Dinner was held in the College Hall on June 29th 2007, during the most appalling spell of extremely non June weather! However the rain clouds decided they had had enough for the day and allowed 115 Old Elizabethans and guests to be greeted by the President and Secretary on the College steps without their umbrellas!
Once inside the magnificent College Hall with the doors shut, the ambience of conviviality, good food and wine took over to ensure an enjoyable and memorable evening. Two guests from the College, Sarah Cash and Paula Maher and two of the newly elected Honorary Life Members of the OEA, John Hooker and Rick James were present. A great platform for young OEs to renew acquaintances.
The Guest of Honour was Jurat A C Bisson (4741) who recalled interesting and memorable parts of his life in education and latterly as a Jurat of the Royal Court.
An excellent Floreat was proposed by Russell Clark (7633) and the Senior Prefect Chris Paluch (9783) delivered a most confident and amusing speech.
The Principal, Dr Nick Argent, as usual, delivered an entertaining account of a very successful school year including the frustrations of hammering home our superiority over Victoria College. Many wins, but sadly a few losses, one of which was the Haines Shield at Bisley when the last shooting member of the Victoria VIII scored a possible! We lost it by a single point!
The Principal concluded by reminding the diners that 5 years ago when he made his first after dinner speech to the Old Elizabethans, he said that one day their help would be needed for the College to continue to flourish. Having made reference to the newly formed College Foundation, he said that the time was now.
The 142nd Guernsey Dinner, definitely one to remember.
