London Dinner 2006

The RAF Club in Piccadilly played host to the London Dinner on the 13th October and once again the splendid surroundings of the Club were enjoyed by the participating OEs.

The President, Jerry Girard (5442), during his address spoke of rising costs at the Club and the need for the Association to raise the price of the Dinner considerably for next year. He asked the members if London was a good venue for the Dinner and the general consensus of opinion was positive.

Guest of Honour was M F Martel (4952) and Floreat Collegium was proposed by J F Ingham (8361). The Second Head Prefect was B W Whitchurch (9795).

Interesting and light-hearted speeches abounded and a most encouraging report of the College year was given by the Principal, Dr Nick Argent.

The Very Rev. Paul Mellor, Dean of Guernsey, attended the Dinner and composed this delightful grace:

Lord, old OEs to Piccadilly have been drawn to dine -
o'er many miles we've come, by air, by sea and railway line.
So now, dear Lord, on cup and glass, on fork and plate,
to pour thy blessing, we beg thee, do not hesitate.
Then, when this meal is over-past and we retire, replete at last
may we recall, though in a haze, the glory of our Carmen days
with Guernsey's magic thrall,
until we meet again withal.

Amen.
